-Informational Databases-

 

American Heritage - provides access to text only from the American Heritage periodical.   Your LMS Library has an almost complete collection from 1955-present.  Please see your library staff for complete articles from the print edition.  Also includes links to American history websites.

 

American Memory Projectis a project of the Library of Congress and indexes spoken words, sound recordings, still and moving images, prints, maps, and sheet music that document the American experience.

 

Encyclopedia Americana - has a more advanced reading level and contains 45,000 articles, prescreened websites, tables, fact boxes, maps, flags, photographs, illustrations, thousands of full-text periodical articles, and many other features.  It has broad coverage in the arts, science, geography, history, philosophy, religion, sports, and technology.   The "American Journal" section links to many worldwide current event stories.

 

Marshall Cavendish Digital Reference Center -  Reference databases for a variety of topics.  They are Life Sciences, International Wildlife , Exploring Life Science, Wildlife and Plants, Inventors and Inventions, Drugs, The Old West, Supreme Court Milestones, Exploring American History, and Gods, Goddesses and Mythology.

 

New Book of Knowledge -  contains 9,000 articles written at an easy-to-read grade level.   It includes prescreened weblinks, photographs, illustrations, maps, flags, bibliographies, article-to-article links, and literary selections-including stories, poems and excerpts.

 

Thinkfinity – Although primarily directed to teachers, this free resource provides homework help, online learning games, student resources, learning activities and more than 55,000 educational resources to teachers, students and parents.  “A resource worth exploring!”

 

-Indexes-

 

American Historyis an index to American Heritage magazine.  There is not text and you must contact the library staff for your article.   Your library has a complete set from 1966-present.

 

National Geographic - is an index to the National Geographic magazine.   The library has an almost complete collection in print format from 1945-present and in digital format from 1888-1998.
